In this edition, we share key AI updates from May, useful tools, upcoming events, community highlights, and opportunities worth exploring.
A. Key AI Updates from May 2026
i. Federal Government of Nigeria and Meta Launch “GovGuide Nigeria”
The Federal Government of Nigeria partnered with Meta to launch GovGuide Nigeria, an open-source Llama-powered chatbot offering voice/text public service access in English, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba.
ii. 36,000 AI and Digital Skills Licenses for Nigerian Youths
The Federal Government of Nigeria partnered with Coursera to fully fund 36,000 licenses. Deployed via YABATECH and NOUN, the program trains youth in AI, Data Science, and Cybersecurity.
iii. Google I/O 2026: The Agentic Era Arrives
Google launched Gemini 3.5 Flash and “Spark,” a 24/7 autonomous workspace agent. They also debuted Gemini Omni for physics-aware video generation.
iv. Cassava Announces NVIDIA-Powered AI Factory for Africa
Cassava Technologies announced an NVIDIA-powered AI Factory in South Africa, with plans to rapidly scale across Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco.
v. Kasi Hyperscale Data Centre Opens in Lagos
NSIA-backed Kasi Cloud Datacentres commissioned a 100MW AI-ready hyperscale facility in Lekki, boosting Nigeria’s local data sovereignty.
B. AI Tool of the Month
An agent-first desktop development platform launched at Google I/O 2026 that lets developers orchestrate and manage autonomous AI sub-agents in parallel.
